About Me

Coding, homeservers, AI, and the journey of continuous improvement

Hi, I'm Maximilian Blau

You can call me Max. I'm an economist by profession, but a technologist at heart — with a lifelong passion for understanding, building, and improving technology.

Ever since I was 10 years old, I've been fascinated by the inner workings of computers: taking apart PCs, exploring operating systems, helping friends and family troubleshoot, and trying out the latest gadgets. That early curiosity turned into a continuous journey of learning and experimentation that still drives me today.

This site is a space to document that journey — built in the spirit of permanent beta: always learning, improving, and evolving.

What I Do

I work across a range of technologies, from software development to home server infrastructure and automation. My focus is on creating efficient, secure, and resilient environments — whether it's coding modern web applications, managing self-hosted services, or exploring the potential of AI and automation.

The "Permanent Beta" Philosophy

Permanent Beta reflects my approach to both life and technology. In a fast-changing world, growth comes from iteration, feedback, and continuous exploration — not from waiting for perfection.

Just like software in beta, I'm always learning, experimenting, and evolving — one version at a time. It’s an approach that keeps me curious, adaptable, and excited about what's coming next.

My Journey

1998

Discovered a passion for technology by taking apart PCs, exploring operating systems, and helping friends and family.

2000s

Deepened my interest in software, networking, and emerging tech trends — always staying curious and hands-on.

2010s

Built personal web projects and experimented with automation scripts alongside academic and professional pursuits.

2020

Started my structured homeserver journey with a simple Raspberry Pi setup to self-host services.

2021

Expanded to a more robust infrastructure with dedicated servers, Docker containerization, and service orchestration.

2022

Integrated advanced networking, security best practices, and backup systems for a more resilient setup.

2023–Present

Focusing on AI integration, automation workflows, monitoring, and continuous deployment strategies.
